Wedding Anniversaries

John and Sheila Beard celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 26 May 2008.
They were married on Whit Monday at St Mary the Virgin church, Bramshall, Hampshire, and honeymooned at St Ives, Cornwall.
Whilst not knowing each other when he was on Newfy, they met at an Old Thyme Dance club whilst he was serving on HMS Lynx and were married when John returned from an 18 month commission in the South Atlantic station based at Simonstown.


Congratulations to Bertha and Francis Breakell who celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on 22 May 2008.


Eric and Jean Burston will be celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on the 25 September 2008.
Eric and Jean were married at St Margarets, Westminster, London.


Alan and Jean Clayton celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 5 April 2008.Alan and Jean were married on 5 April 1958 in St Barnabas Church, Hull.
Alan had just returned home from the Newfy in the January 1958. Jeans dad told her he didnt think it would last as we were too young. Alan was glad to prove him wrong and survived all the normal pitfalls, like no funds to start off.
They have three children, first is Andrew who is a Dentist, Mark is a HGV Mechanic and Lisa is a Mental Health Nurse. They also have four grandchildren one of whom is a Doctor.
Jean and Alan are both retired and now spend the cold months in the warmer climes of India (Goa) and are shortly off to Turkey as the cold doesnt sit well on their shoulders.
This will be the first Reunion they will have missed since joining the Association and are very sorry to do so but hope it will be its usual success. They said they will certainly be at the last one next year if God spares them, they hope to see us all then.


Congratulations to Kay and Arthur Cluett who celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary on 24 July 2008.
They met when Arthur was 17 and Kay was 16 and within weeks he was called up into the navy.
After serving on the Newfoundland from 1944 to 1946 they became engaged and eventually married. They say they have had a wonderful life, with two wonderful sons and five grandchildren.
Since retiring they have visited a lot of the places that Arthur visited whilst in the navy; Scotland, Malta and even and New Zealand which they both enjoyed. Kay says Arthur told her many tales about each place.


Michael and Sheila Wise celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 12 July 2008.
Michael met Sheila when he was 17 years of age, soon after he started his naval training at Portsmouth. They got engaged just before he joined the Newfoundland. They have 4 children and 7 grandchildren who all wish them all the very best in their Golden year.


Mike and Kathleen Langham have just celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. They held a party and had a small service to re-new their vows at Beacon International Centre, Stafford. Staffs.
We had 150 guests - 50 Chinese friends including a Chinese choir from the Birmingham Chinese church and 100 English friends.
We both come from Leicester and met each other when we were 16/17 years old. In 1956 I joined the Newfoundland and we were married in 1958 on my return. We were married in Leicester at Bethel Evangelical Church, Wigston Fields, Leicester. In 1966 I joined the MOD Constabulary after having served 13 years in the Royal Marines (including 1 year boy service) My final service was as a Sergeant in Stafford, where we now live.
We have 2 sons and 1 daughter and 4 grandchildren.


Rose and George Perry celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 9 August 2008. They were married at St Marys Church, Newport, Gwent. At the time George was serving on HM submarine Thermopylae.
Rose and George had four children, one of whom, Amanda, was born in Singapore when George was serving on HM Submarine Ambush.
They have enjoyed travelling and finally settled in Atlanta in the USA
